Aztreonam Lysine

Aztreonam lysine is an inhaled monobactam antibacterial agent. It is specifically formulated for inhalation to target Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections in the lungs of cystic fibrosis patients. It acts by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, thereby inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis and causing cell lysis.

Dosage by Body Weight

The standard dose for adults and pediatric patients aged 7 years and older is 75 mg administered by inhalation three times daily for a 28-day cycle, followed by 28 days off the drug. Doses should be taken at least 4 hours apart using the Altera Nebulizer System. It is not dosed based on body weight, and safety has not been established for patients under 7 years of age.
